The OIT offers computer loans to Notre Dame faculty, staff and students. These units can help you remain productive when your computer is being repaired, when you need a laptop for a trip, or when you need to study in a remote location. We have a variety of Windows and Mac laptops available to borrow. Configurations may vary, so please provide hardware and software needs when you make your reservation.

Mobile Devices Available

Laptop: Windows Configuration

A variety of laptops that all have similar configurations including Intel processors, wireless connectivity, and the Windows Operating System. Laptops will include a laptop sleeve and AC adapter.  All Windows laptops Google Chrome and Zoom.  All windows laptops have USB-A, USB-C and HDMI ports. Does not include Adobe products. Customers may install additional software as needed.

You will sign on to the loaned computer with your Notre Dame Username and password at the time of pickup. Please allow an extra 15 minutes to complete this process.

Laptop: Macintosh Configuration

A variety of Mac laptops that all have similar configurations including Intel processors, AirPort wireless connectivity, and Mac OS X. Laptops will include a laptop sleeve and AC adapter. All Mac laptops include Google Chrome and Zoom.  All Macintosh computers have USB-A and mini display ports. Does not include Adobe products.  Customers may install additional software as needed.

Note: The Service Desk has adapter rings available if you need to connect to a device with an HDMI port.  The adapter ring has USB-C/Lightning/mini-displayport to HDMI. These same adaptors are in use in the registrar classrooms.  More information can be found at KB0015068

While the username for Mac laptops is generic, the password is set up to match your NetID password. This process should be completed at the time of pickup, and cannot be completed once you are beyond range of the Notre Dame network. Please allow for additional time when picking up the Mac.

International Loans

Traveling with IT devices to some countries, most notably China and Russia, is considered high risk. The U.S. government has issued several advisories that travelers be aware that they could be targets of espionage activities when visiting these countries. The OIT provides laptops to staff and faculty at no cost for international travel. However, FOAPALs are collected at the time of check out and will only be charged if the machine is returned damaged, or it is lost.

International computer equipment should be reserved in advance whenever possible. This allows us to ensure that your machine is ready for use and available for the entire length of your trip without infringing on availability for the next user.

Both Macs and PCs are available for check out.

More information on IT Security Recommendations for International Travel.

Computer equipment can be borrowed for a maximum of 30 consecutive days. If the equipment is not returned within this period, your credit card on file will be charged the replacement fee. Your credit card will be authorized at the time of borrowing to cover any potential loss, damage, or late return. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.

Check-out and check-in of all computers must occur between normal business hours.
