Google Chat is the Preferred Messaging Service

Google Chat is a communication tool within Google Workspace that enables direct messaging and organized group conversations in dedicated spaces. It is the preferred messaging service in Google Workspace.  

Google Chat History

To comply with information security best practices, all message history for direct messages, group messages, and spaces will be automatically deleted on a rolling 180-day basis.

Additionally, history is disabled by default for 1:1 and group messages. If history is not manually enabled, messages will disappear after 24 hours. To enable history, click the drop-down menu next to the participant or group name (located below the search bar) and select Turn on history.
