How do I access a Virtual Computer Lab to use software?
A virtual computer will be created for you within minutes of your request. For more details about what a Virtual Computer Lab is, see this article. Follow the instructions below to request a virtual computer.
- Go to okta.nd.edu and log in with your NetID and Password.
- Click the icon for the Virtual Computer Lab you would like to access.
Note: Depending on your course schedule, you may have access to multiple lab environments. Please follow the guidance of your professor as to which lab environment to select. - A countdown will display until the machine is ready for use.
- A browser window will appear with the title ‘Amazon AppStream 2.0’. This is your virtual Windows desktop. Fullscreen mode is available by clicking
- Connect Google Drive! You will only need to allow the virtual lab environment to access your Google Drive once. Any files not saved to the cloud will be lost when you end your session.
- Click on the My Files icon in the upper left of the window.
- Click Add Storage and select Google Drive.
- Click @nd.edu.
- A new dialog box will appear. Choose your @nd.edu account.
- Click Allow.
- You will be returned to Appstream, where Google Drive will now appear.
Note: Appstream may take a few moments to load in the contents of your Google Drive. - Once you have authorized Google Drive access, your file open and save dialog boxes will allow you to open and save to Google Drive.
- Click on the My Files icon in the upper left of the window.
- When you are done using your virtual computer, end your session by clicking End Session in the Profiles menu.
Please be mindful of other users and end your session when you are no longer actively working in the software.
