Before You Begin

By default, all Zoom meeting recordings imported to Panopto are private.  There are two ways to share your Zoom meeting recordings in Panopto with your students:

  1. Automatically share all Zoom course recordings made with a specific Meeting ID with your students.

    or

  2. Manually share each Zoom meeting recording as-needed.

To simplify course setup and increase security, a Zoom meeting will automatically be created for every course. Because these meetings are not scheduled for specific dates and times, they can be started any time and reused for the entire semester. Recordings will not start automatically so if you want to record the meeting, you will need to start the recording yourself.

Note: Use of this Zoom meeting for any online or dual delivery of your course is strongly recommended (especially if you plan to automatically make the recordings available to students).

For more information about the Zoom to Panopto integration, see About the Zoom to Panopto Integration in ServiceNow.

Automatically Share Zoom Course Recordings with Students

By default, all Zoom meeting recordings imported to Panopto are private. After completing the steps below, any Zoom recordings made with a specific Zoom Meeting ID will automatically be moved to the Panopto folder in Canvas which your students can access.  This will not move pre-existing recordings, only recordings made after automation is set up.  To move pre-existing recordings, please follow the manual process below.

You will need to inform your students they can find these recordings by clicking on the Panopto tool in Canvas.

  1. Log into Canvas and navigate to your course.

  2. Click the Panopto tool. This ensures you have the necessary rights to the Panopto course folder. (You need to do this step once for each course.)

Note: Each Zoom meeting has a unique Meeting ID. You can find your Zoom Meeting IDs by logging into zoom.nd.edu.

    1. Clicking Meetings.
    2. Locate the meeting in the Topic column.
    3. Locating the corresponding Meeting ID.

  7. In the Folder Name field, select the destination folder by typing the course number (FA20-XXX-YYYYY), or clicking the drop-down arrow and searching for the course folder. (Click the triangle to the left of Canvas Courses to view its sub-folders.)

Note: Panopto will only display the folders in which you have rights to create content. (This is why Step 2 is important.)

  8. Click Save.

  9. You should now have an entry in the list of “folder mappings”. These can be deleted when they are no longer needed. All future Zoom cloud recordings for this Meeting ID will automatically be moved to the selected folder. Meetings will appear in Panopto shortly after Zoom completes processing. All other Zoom cloud recordings will still appear in your private Meeting Recordings folder.

Manually Share Zoom Course Recordings with Students

By default, all Zoom meeting recordings imported to Panopto are private. The process below can be used to move the Panopto recordings from your private Meeting Recordings folder, to the Panopto folder in Canvas which your students can access. This process will need to be repeated for every Zoom cloud recording you need to share with your students.

After completing the steps below, you will need to inform your students they can find the Zoom recording in the Panopto tool in Canvas.

  1. Log into Canvas and navigate to your course.

  2. Click on the Panopto tool. You only need to do this step one time for every course you are teaching. This ensures you have the necessary rights to the course folder Panopto creates for you. (To move recordings in the future, you can log into panopto.nd.edu and start at step 4.)

  3. Click the arrow in the top right corner to open Panopto in a new window.

  4. Click My Folder in the top left corner.

  5. Find and click the Meeting Recordings folder in the right hand pane. (This folder will not appear until Panopto has imported a Zoom cloud recording.)

  6. Click the Detailed List View icon at the top of the window.

  7. Find the recording you want to move and check the box to its left.
    1. You can select and move multiple recordings at once.
    2. If there is no checkbox to the left, mouse over the thumbnail of the recording to see the checkbox.
  8. After you have finished selecting recordings, click Move.

  9. In the next window, select the destination folder by typing in the official course number (FA20-XXX-YYYYY) or clicking the drop-down arrow to search for the folder. (Click the triangle to the left of Canvas Courses to view its sub-folders.)

Note: Panopto will only display the folders in which you have rights to create content. (This is why Step 2 was important.)

  10. After selecting the folder, Panopto displays a confirmation page which allows you to verify the destination folder and see its permissions. Click Move.

  11. Go back to your course in Canvas and refresh the page by clicking on the Panopto tool again. You should now see the recording(s) you just moved.
