Question

I'm having problems logging on. How can I reset my own password?

Answer

Once you've enrolled in Okta you will have options to reset your own password, depending on what factors you've enrolled or what information is on file for you.

If you have not yet enrolled in Okta, or are unable to follow the steps below, please call the OIT Help Desk (574-631-8111) during normal business hours.

To reset your password, follow these steps:

  1. Go to okta.nd.edu or any other screen where you are prompted to login.
  2. Enter your NetID and click Next
    1. Verify you are using your NetID and NOT your NDID#
  3. If your password is not working, click Forgot password?

  4. From the additional options that appear, click Select beside the method you wish to use

  5. Depending on which option you choose you'll be presented with a screen similar to one of the following. Click the blue button to continue.

    1. Choosing Email will cause an email to be sent to your ND email address, AND your personal email address if you have one enrolled in Okta. The link in that email will only be valid for 5 minutes.
    2. Choosing Phone allows you to then select either SMS (text message) or a voice call.
  6. Locate the contact you received and follow the on-screen instructions.

  7. When using email, you may be prompted to confirm it's you.

  8. Enter the new desired password that meets the requirements displayed on the screen.  You will need to type the same password in both fields, and then click Reset Password.

  9. If you receive an error message, carefully review the text on the screen and verify that your new password meets the requirements.  Make the needed adjustments and then try again.
