Box and Google have worked together to allow both the ability to save email attachments directly to Box and allow the ability to share a link to a box file from within Gmail. Here are the steps needed to install the Box for Gmail app. App is now called Box for Google Workspace. See this article on how to use the Box for Gmail app once installed.
- In Gmail, click the gear icon > See all settings
- Click on Add-ons > Manage
- In the search bar, type: Box for Google Workspace
- Select the Box for Google Workspace add-on. The correct image is:
- Click the Install button (or the individual Install button) (upper right)
- Box will ask for your permission to install. Click Continue
- Choose which account to connect; pick your NetID@nd.edu account
- Box will supply a page saying it needs access to your Google Account; click Allow
- The app will be installed.
- You may have to click Done to clear a ‘your app has been installed’ window.
- Close the G Suite Marketplace window
- Give it a few seconds. You may see a pop-up in your Gmail saying that the app is installed.
- You should now see a Box icon to the far right of your Gmail - if you have the side panel showing (to show or hide, click the > or < icon in the bottom right in your Gmail)
- Once installed:
- When you compose a new email message, you will now see the box icon at the bottom (same row as the Send button).
- For any attachment(s) you have in Gmail, while the email with the attachment is open (i.e. you are viewing the email), click the Box icon to the far right (in the side pane). To show or hide the side pane in Gmail, click the > or < icon in the bottom right.
