Question:

How to set up an automated response on a Gmail account.

Context:

Gmail

Answer:

  1. Open your Gmail account settings: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/general

    1. Or within Gmail, click the Gear icon and select See all settings

  2. Scroll down to the Vacation responder section (stay in the General tab)
  3. Select Vacation responder on.
  4. Fill in the date range, subject, and message
  5. You can limit who can see your vacation response by checking one of the options:

    • Check the box next to Only send a response to people in my Contacts if you don't want everyone who emails you to receive the auto-reply
    • You'll also see an option to only send a response to people in your domain (e.g. people at the University of Notre Dame).
    • If you check both of these boxes, only people who are in your contacts and have a Notre Dame address will receive the automatic response.
    • If you do not check either box, everyone who sends you an email will receive your auto-reply.
  6. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.
