In order to connect to the wired network, you will need the hardware to do so:

Note: If you have not used a network jack recently, it may not be active. You can request a network jack be activated following these instructions.

Connecting to the wired network:

  1. Be sure your computer is powered off when you first plug it into the wired network.

  2. Once you are physically plugged into the wired network, power it on and follow one of the methods below for registering your device into the correct wired network zone.

  3. Register a device: via netreg.nd.edu.
    • Faculty, Staff, and Students can use the Network Registration site to manually register their wired network devices on the ND wired network.
    • Any person with a valid NetID can register wired network devices.
    • Choose a unique name, such as frsorin-imac, instead of merely iMac, which may already exist on the network.
    • Students can find more detailed instructions here.

  4. Request that your device be manually assigned to a network zone.
    • If you have a device that does not have a web browser (e.g., printers, research devices) but that must be connected to the network, you can also contact you're assigned IT Support Consultant or the OIT Help Desk at (574) 631-8111. They will assist you in connecting your system to the Zoned Network.

  5. In order to ensure current registration information, you may be required to re-authenticate to the wired network approximately once per year.

If you have any questions or need help connecting your system to the network, please contact your departmental IT support staff or the OIT Help Desk for assistance.
