Notre Dame and the Office of Information Technologies (OIT) provide services that enable Notre Dame students, faculty and employees to learn, teach and work anywhere in the world.
At a time when circumstances may cause you to be away from campus, there are ways you can continue to conduct your class and/or University business during this time. Whether you are away for a family emergency or attending a conference, or there is an unforeseen campus event (power outage, building closure, etc.), this information will help you set up an effective contingency plan.
For those who are away from campus, be sure to communicate with the people in your department, class, etc., to inform them of your status and how you will continue in your role until you return. For those on campus who need to communicate with colleagues and/or students away from campus, be sure to inform them about the resources available to them to keep them updated in their role until they return.
Email, chat, conferencing, web pages and other means of sharing information can enable all to learn, teach and/or work regardless of location.

Give students a test or a quiz: Sakai Tests & Quizzes Overview
You can use the Tests & Quizzes tool in Sakai to help you assess student learning.
Share documents with students: Upload to Sakai's Resources or Embed a Google Drive Folder in Your Sakai Site.
There are many ways to share documents with your students. However Sakai, Notre Dame’s Learning Management System, is recommended. It provides one convenient place where students can go to find all the material that they need to navigate their courses. If you already have another way to share documents with your students (i.e., Google Drive), you can link to your Drive folder from within Sakai. Otherwise, you can quickly upload multiple files in the Sakai site's Resources.
Distribute and collect assignments: Sakai Assignments Overview
One of the workhorse features of Sakai is Assignments. While you could collect submissions from your students via email, using the Assignments tool in Sakai helps reduce email clutter. It also updates both you and your students about what work has been completed and what work is still pending. Grades assigned in the Assignments tool can be sent to the course Gradebook.
Meet and Discuss using a Chat Room in Sakai: Sakai Chat Room
The Chat Room is a real-time, text-only chat tool within a Sakai site that offers both whole-site or smaller group conversations.
Office Hours: Zoom in Combination with Google Calendar
Students and faculty can schedule meetings using Google Calendar. Those meetings can take place using Zoom.
