Question
What does the eduroam configuration utility do when it is run on my devices?
Answer
Eduroam is a secure wifi network used at Notre Dame and many other academic institutions.
The eduroam configuration utility (eduroam.nd,edu) will prepare your device to securely use the eduroam network. The utility has two primary functions:
- The first is creating and installing a configuration file or profile (depending on the device and operating system) that contains all the necessary information needed to connect to eduroam. This includes security certificates, configuration, and possibly credentials if requested for some operating systems
- After running the utility, your device will also be able to connect to the eduroam network hosted at other colleges, universities, libraries, and museums by securely using your ND credentials
- The third thing the utility does is change the configuration of the ND-guest to not automatically join. This improves performance; your device won't automatically switch between Wi-Fi networks while on the ND campus.
For information on the advantages of eduroam over ND-guest, see KB0018644
If you experience any problems running the utility, or if you are unable to connect to eduroam after running the utility, please contact the Service Desk.
