Course Google Groups
What is a Course Google Group?
Notre Dame automatically creates a Google Group for every course section. This group gives instructors and students an easy way to communicate with everyone in the class using a single email address.
You can use your course Google Group to:
- Send class announcements
- Start class discussions
- Share course materials and resources
How do Course Google Groups work?
Each course Google Group is created automatically.
- Students and instructors are added automatically. Everyone who is registered for the course or assigned to teach it becomes a member.
- Messages are delivered to your Notre Dame email. When someone emails the group, every member receives the message in their Notre Dame inbox.
- Members can send messages. Anyone who is subscribed to the group can email the entire class using their Notre Dame email account.
How do I email my course Google Group?
You can access your course Google Group through the Online Photo Roster in InsideND.
Note: If you are off campus, you must connect to the VPN before accessing the Online Photo Roster.
Steps
- Go to inside.nd.edu and sign in with your NetID and password.
- Search for and open the Online Photo Roster application.
- Select the course section you want.
- In the upper-right corner of the course roster, select Email Class Roster.
- Your default email application will open with the course Google Group email address already entered in the To field. Compose your message and send it to the class.
What should I know?
Course Google Groups are created and managed automatically, so you do not need to create or maintain the email list yourself. Membership is updated based on the course roster, making it an easy way to communicate with everyone enrolled in your class.
