Question
What does the eduroam configuration utility do when it is run on my devices?
Answer
Eduroam is a secure wifi network used at Notre Dame and many other academic institutions.
The eduroam configuration utility (eduroam.nd,edu) will prepared your device to use the eduroam network. The utility has two main functions:
- The first is creating and installing a configuration file or profile (depending on the device and operating system) that contains all the necessary information needed to connect to eduroam. This includes authentication credentials and security certificates.
- The second purpose is to collect basic configuration information about the connecting device. This allows the OIT Help Desk to provide troubleshooting if you experience any problems when running the utility.
- The utility also changes the configuration of the ND-guest connection to not automatically join. This improves performance; your device won't automatically switch between wifi signals on the ND campus.
If you experience any problems running the utility, or if you are unable to connect to eduroam after running the utility, please contact the OIT Help Desk.
