How can Notre Dame students acquire Microsoft Office?
Resolution:
Notre Dame has licensed Microsoft Office for all enrolled students, allowing you to download and use the latest version at no cost.

To acquire Microsoft Office:
- Access the Office 365 Portal:
- Go to https://inside.nd.edu/
- In the search bar, type "Office 365 Portal" and press Enter.
- Click on the Office 365 Portal App from the search results.
- Log in to your Microsoft Account:
- On the Microsoft login page, enter your full Notre Dame email address (NetID@nd.edu) in the username field.
- Press Next. You will be redirected to the Notre Dame Okta login page.
- Enter your NetID and password on the Notre Dame Okta login page and complete any multi-factor authentication steps.
- Download or Use Office Applications:
- Once logged in, you will see Apps in the left column.
- You have two main options:
- Use Web Versions: You can directly launch and use the web versions of applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook by clicking on their icons.
- Install Office: To install the full desktop applications on your computer, look for the "Install apps" button in the top right corner. Click on it and select "Microsoft 365 apps" (or similar wording, as the precise text can vary slightly with updates).
- Use Web Versions: You can directly launch and use the web versions of applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook by clicking on their icons.
- Complete the Installation:
- If you choose to "Install Office," the installer file will download to your computer.
- Locate the downloaded file (usually in your "Downloads" folder) and launch it.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
NOTE: You will have access to this Microsoft Office license as long as you are an active student at Notre Dame. Upon graduation or leaving the university, your access to this licensed software will expire.
