How to set up a Notre Dame Gmail account on the Mail app on a Mac

If you have Mail 9.3 or higher, you can follow these instructions:

1. Go to http://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps and verify that less secure apps are enabled
2. Open the Mail app
3. Click Mail in the upper-left corner of the screen
   
   
   
   
4. Click Accounts...
   
   
   
   
5. Click Google
   
   
   
   
6. Type your netid@nd.edu email address on the Enter your email line
   
   
   
   
7. Click Next
   
   
   
   
8. You will be redirected to the Central Authentication Service (CAS). Enter your NetID and password
9. Click LOGIN
   
   
   
   
10. Complete Two Step Login (if needed)
11. Select the apps you want to use on your computer
12. Click Done
    
    
    

If you have a version of Mail that is less than 9.3, then you will need to set your email up, using IMAP settings:

1. Go to http://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps and verify that less secure apps are enabled
2. Enable POP/IMAP access for your Notre Dame Gmail account.
   1. Sign in to Notre Dame Gmail.
   2. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.
   3. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
   4. Select Enable IMAP.
3. Click Mail > Preferences....
4. On the Accounts tab, click the + button to add a new account.
5. Choose Add Other Mail Account...
6. Fill in the new window with the following information:
   1. Full Name: [your name]
   2. Email Address: your NetID@nd.edu address
   3. Password: your Notre Dame password
   4. Click Create
7. The page will state that the Account must be manually configured. Click Next
8. On the Incoming Mail Server Info screen enter the following information
   1. Account Type: Select IMAP
   2. Mail Server: imap.gmail.com
   3. User Name: your NetID@nd.edu address (Note: your netid should already be entered, but you will need to add @nd.edu)
   4. Password: your Notre Dame password
   5. Click Next
9. On the Outgoing Mail Server Info screen enter the following information:
   1. SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
   2. User Name: your NetID@nd.edu address
   3. Password: your Notre Dame password
   4. Click Create
   5. Switch the outgoing port from 587 to 465
10. Check Google's recommended client settings, and adjust your client's settings as needed.
