In Panopto, you can run analytics on either an individual video or the contents of an entire folder.
- Running analytics on a specific video lets you see which student have watched the video and how much they watched.
- The default reporting period is always the previous month but that can be changed using the options located below the charts.
- If you would like to do your own analysis, you can download the data to your computer using the Download link in the top right of the charts and tables.
- A video demonstrating Panopto analytics can be found here: Panopto - Statistics and Analytics
To begin looking at the data:
- Open a web browser and go to panopto.nd.edu
- Log in using your NetID and password
- In the Browse section on the left, find the folder which contains the data you want to analyze and click on it to select it.
(You can also view the same statistics through Sakai. Log into Sakai, find your course, and click on the Panopto tool. Click the Folder Stats icon in the top right.) - In the top right hand of your browser, click the Folder Stats icon. (You can run reports anywhere you see this icon.)
- This will create a chart which contains the following data for all the videos in the folder.
- Number of minutes viewed - Represented by the orange line
- Number of views - Represented by the light bars
- Number of unique viewers - Represented by the dark bars
Note: The default reporting period is always the previous month. In this example, this has been changed to the Past Week.
- The table underneath the chart shows metrics for each video in the folder. It is sorted in descending order of viewing time and limited to the top 100 videos. Clicking on any of the videos will take you to the analytics page for that video. This lets you easily drill down in more detail to see per user statistics.
- After clicking on a video, two charts and a table are displayed on the next page. These charts display the metrics for only this video.
- The top chart displays the same information about minutes viewed, number of views, and unique viewers.
- The bottom chart displays the number of views within the video timeline. Hovering your mouse over a data point displays the number of views for that point in the video. In the example below you can see that there is a sharp drop-off after the first minute, but there’s a slight increase at about 26 minutes.
- Scrolling further down the page, you can see the per student viewing metrics for the top 100 viewers of this video. If you have more than 100 students in your course, you can download the full list by using the Download link in the top right of the table.
- The top chart displays the same information about minutes viewed, number of views, and unique viewers.
- You can also access the statistics for a video anywhere in Panopto by clicking on the Stats icon.
