Students may be tempted to ask their instructors technical questions about Canvas, but instructors don't need to feel that they have to support Canvas! The Notre Dame OIT Help Desk should be their first stop for technical support. The following is text instructors can use to direct students in case they have a Canvas question.
Technical support for Canvas is provided by the OIT Help Desk.
If you have a question or issue concerning Canvas, please click the Help button on the blue global navigation panel on the left side of your Canvas screen. An ND Virtual Agent is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help you search for answers to common questions; in-person assistance via chat, phone or email is available during regular help desk business hours.
For questions regarding your laptop or other technology problems, contact the OIT Help Desk at oithelp@nd.edu or phone: 574-631-8111. You can also walk in at 115 DeBartolo Hall. For this semester's walk-in hours, please check: oit.nd.edu/help-desk.
Support staff will contact me if they need to discuss the way I’ve set up our class. Please tell them the web address to our Canvas site, my NetID as your instructor and your NetID, and specifically name the assignment or task you need help with.
Technical Tips Before Contacting the Canvas Help:
- Access Canvas with a newly opened fresh browser (not one that’s been open for a month and has 47 tabs running across the top).
- Before calling the Help Desk with issues, empty your browser history, close and re-open your browser. Often that’s all it takes. (How-To Instructions Here).
- Never login to Canvas twice in two tabs in the same browser, especially when taking a test. You may lose answers.
