Question

How do I connect to DirecTV in my residence hall?

Context

DirecTV

Answer

As of Fall 2019, DirecTV is the TV service provider for Notre Dame. For students, DirecTV can only be accessed via the ArtioPortal app (for mobile devices) or via a dedicated website in a Chrome browser. Coax cables will no longer work in residence hall student rooms.

2021 UPDATE.  In 2021 Exterity Limited was acquired by Vitec, and the ArtioPortal app is no longer available in the app store.  As of this writing, if you have the ArtioPortal app installed on your mobile device or tablet it will continue to work, but new users can not load the ArtioPortal app.

IF STUDENT DOES NOT HAVE ArtioPortal app loaded

  1. Go to a web browser on your device - any up to date version browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.) should work
  2. Type tv.campus.nd.edu/portal into your browser address bar
  3. Initial screen display:
  4. Tap upper left corner
  5. Tap the desired channel to view.

IF USING A PREVIOUSLY LOADED ArtioPortal app

Students can stream the full 54 channels and 4 local channels through their smartphone or tablet, but only while connected to EDUROAM.

To configure the ArtioPortal app:

  1. Locate and download the ArtioPortal app in the Android or iPhone app store
  2. Make sure the device is connected to EDUROAM
  3. The first time the app is launched, a request will pop up to provide a server address:
    • Enter 10.71.10.10
  4. Tap the drop down menu in the upper left corner of the app - then tap All Channels
Note: If you are not on EDUROAM you will get a blank screen

ArtioPortal Screen initially:

Tap upper left corner

All Channels display

 Tap desired channel to view.

Dedicated web site through Chrome browser (MUST BE ON EDUROAM)

Students can stream the full 54 channels and 4 local channels through a Chrome web browser using the ArtioPortal interface by following these steps:

  1. Ensure you are connected to Eduroam
  2. Open Google Chrome
  3. If your Chrome browser is version 76 (released 07/30/19) or higher you must enable the Native Client (NaCl) support.  To enable the NaCl:
    1. Browse to chrome://flags
    2. Search for #enable-nacl
    3. Select enabled from the drop-down list
    4. Restart the browser
    5. Be patient - the first time you go stream after enabling NaCl you might need to restart the browser a 2nd time
  4. Type 10.71.10.10/portal into the browser address bar
  5. Select the channel you want to stream
  6. Begin streaming
  7. If you can not reach channel content then revisit previous step - enable NaCL
