Question

What is the best way to use Two Step Login when traveling?

Answer

Important:  If you will be traveling when we switch to Okta for two step login you must have a device(s) that is enrolled and accessible to you for BOTH Duo and Okta so that you can easily transition to the new service on July 29, 2019. Recommendations for Duo can be found here.

You have several options for Two Step Login using Okta that will work both within the US and internationally.

  • Smart phone or tablet with the Okta Verify app installed: If you have a smartphone that can download the Okta Verify app, you can still use the app internationally.
    • When you have a wifi or cellular signal, you can click send push to send a notification to the app (more details here).
    • When you don't have a wifi or cellular signal, you can use the app to generate a passcode (more details here).
  • Smart phone or tablet with Google Authenticator installed (more details here).
  • Yubikey: If you don't have access to a smartphone or tablet, you can purchase a Yubikey security key (more details here).
  • Phone with a non-US number: If you have a landline phone or a cell phone from a non-US provider, you will need to select the appropriate country to ensure that it is able to receive the verification call (more details here).
