Question

How do I enroll the Okta Verify App on my smartphone or Tablet?

Answer

If you have previously enrolled a phone in Okta Verify and need to add a new device to Okta, please refer to KB0017575.

  1. Login to Okta by visiting okta.nd.edu and enter your NetID and password
  2. When prompted for two step, respond with a previously enrolled option
  3. Click your name in the upper right corner
  4. Select Settings
  5. Locate the Extra Verification panel and the option for Okta Verify Mobile App
  6. Click the Setup button beside it

    1. If you've previously configured the app and wish to reconfigure it, click Reset and then Setup
  7. Select the icon for the type of mobile device you have (Apple, Android or Windows), then click Next

  8. On your mobile device:
    1. Visit your device's app store, then locate and install the Okta Verify app
    2. Launch the Okta Verify app (Images from iOS, Android and Windows apps should be similar)
    3. Allow Camera Access and Push Notifications when prompted

    4. Click Add Account or the plus symbol

    5. The camera will open, then scan the barcode (QR code) on your computer screen

    6. Enter your Touch ID if prompted
  9. A check will appear on the barcode
    1. The screen on your smartphone may begin displaying a number with a moving circle, and the number changes every 30 seconds. This is a time-based, one-time passcode you can use as an alternative to Okta Verify Push notifications.
  10. Click Done

Note: If you replace or upgrade the device that the Okta Verify app. is installed on, the app will cease to work.  For this reason, we recommend you enroll at least one additional option to be used as a backup, such as SMS (text message) or Voice Call. For information on other options please see KB0017212.
