All Notre Dame students should have a personal laptop and headphones in order to participate in course assignments and activities (including online courses delivered via Zoom). Some academic programs may require specific software or capabilities beyond the minimum recommendations listed below. Contact your academic advisor or college if you have any questions about specific applications and their minimum requirements.
Those for whom obtaining such items would present a financial hardship should contact the Office of Student Enrichment. Please note this guidance is not a requirement but a recommendation.
Minimum Standards
Apple (MacBook) Laptop
- Intel based Mac running OS 10.15 or higher
- 16 GB RAM or higher
- 256 GB (or more) hard disk space total, preferably SSD (solid state drive)
Windows Laptop
- i5 Gen 8 or better
- 16 GB of RAM or higher
- 512 GB (or more) hard disk space total, preferably SSD (solid state drive)
- Support for DirectX 11 graphics with 128MB or higher
- Microsoft supported version of Windows 10 (Enterprise, Ultimate or Professional versions if possible)

Also, in order to supplement your own computer, the OIT provides Computer Labs with a variety of specialized software (Windows or Macintosh) that may be useful for completing coursework.
