Need to connect to the VPN to access restricted on-campus systems

Resolution

Launching Cisco AnyConnect

After installing Cisco AnyConnect, you can connect to the VPN by launching the program and entering the server address

Mac: Open the program by going to Finder, Applications, Cisco, Cisco AnyConnect Mobility Client.

Windows:  Open the program by going to Start, Cisco, Cisco AnyConnect Mobility Client.

Then select Connect and respond to the login prompts that appear.

Obtaining the Cisco AnyConnect

The VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a network access service that permits remote systems to obtain a campus IP address and access the ND network as if they were locally connected. Certain restricted systems require a campus IP address for access.

Cisco AnyConnect is the recommended method to access the VPN. To install Cisco AnyConnect:


Note: Chrome OS, Windows RT and Windows Mobile do not support the VPN implementation used by Notre Dame at this time, which will limit the ability to access ND services from remote locations while using a Chromebook, other Chrome OS devices, Windows RT devices, and Windows Mobile phones. See Google's support page for additional information on supported VPN implementations.


Installing Cisco Secure Client for Windows

If you downloaded the installer from OIT Software Downloads, follow these instructions to install it:

  1. Locate the file you downloaded and double-click to launch it
  2. In the welcome screen that appears, click Next


  3. If prompted to Accept the license agreement, do so and click Next


  4. Confirm that you wish to proceed by clicking Install


  5. If you see a message that Cisco AnyConnect is currently in use, check the box to Automatically close applications and click OK

  6. When prompted, click Finish


  7. You can now launch the new version, called Cisco Security Client.  Follow the instructions to connect based on your current affiliation with ND.

 

Note: If you are experiencing issues while using YubiKey when connecting to the vpn, please upgrade to Cisco Secure Client version 5.0.01242 or newer.
