Creating an Optimized PDF

Save your document as an optimized PDF before sending it to the printer. This will reduce the file size and free up printer memory for processing your job without creating and noticeable differences in print quality. This could mean the difference between 20 minutes of PROCESSING time and 20 seconds!

Step 1

Open the file in Adobe Acrobat. Access "Properties" and note the file size.

Step 2

File > Save As Other > Optimized PDF

Images

>Make compatible with: Acrobat 10.0 and later

>Image Settings

>>Color Images: set Bicubic Downsampling to 150 ppi, Compression to JPEG and Quality to Maximum

>>Grayscale Images: set Bicubic Downsampling to 150 ppi, Compression to JPEG and Quality to Maximum

>>Monochrome Images: set Bicubic Downsampling to 300 ppi, Compression to JBIG2 and Quality to Lossless

>>Check "Optimize images only is there is a reduction in size"

Step 4

Transparency > Preset: [High Resolution]

Step 5

Discard Objects > check all the boxes under Discard Objects Settings

Step 6

Discard User Data > check all the boxes under Discard user related information

Step 7

Clean Up > check all the boxes under Clean Up Settings

Step 8

Click the Save button to begin saving these settings as a new preset.

In the Create PDF Optimizer settings window, name the preset something like ND Optimized PDF and click OK

(Saving this preset will make it easier to optimize more PDFs while you are logged into the same workstation)

Step 9

Back in the PDF Optimizer window, click the OK button.

In the Save Optimized As window, save the file under a new name that identifies it as the optimized version, such as adding -opt.

Click Save.

Step 10

Notice the decrease in file size.
