Question

How do I enroll in Okta for the first time?

Answer

  1. Visit okta.nd.edu on your computer
  2. Enter your Username and Password
  3. From here, you can choose from a number of authentication types.
    1. The recommended first choice is Okta Verify, which will allow push notifications to your smart phone or tablet. 
    2. We recommend you enroll as many options as possible for the greatest flexibility when your primary device may not be available.

      Please Note: You can only have one of each type of factor enrolled at a time. For suggested use cases to help you optimize your enrollment, review What options or factors can I enroll for Okta?
      1. Okta Verify
      2. Security Key (U2F)
      3. Google Authenticator
      4. SMS Authentication
      5. Voice Call Authentication
Okta Verify
  1. Click Okta Verify
  2. Click on your Device Type

  3. Download and install the Okta Verify app from your device's app store
  4. Open the app on your device, then click Next on your computer
  5. In the app, click the + or the Add Account button to open your camera, then scan the barcode that is on your computer screen
  6. Okta Verify is now configured. You can either enroll an additional factor, or click Finish if you are done enrolling devices at this time
Google Authenticator
  1. Click Google Authenticator
  2. Click on your Device Type

  3. Download and install Google Authenticator from your app store to your device, or verify that you already have it installed if you use it for another service.
  4. Click Next
  5. Launch Google Authenticator on your device, then click the plus button and choose scan a barcode
  6. Use the camera on your phone to scan the barcode on your screen, then click Next
  7. Enter the code generated by Google Authenticator
  8. Click Verify
  9. Google Authenticator is now configured. You can either enroll an additional factor, or click Finish if you are done enrolling devices at this time
SMS Authentication
  1. Click SMS Authentication
  2. Ensure the Country is correct for your phone, then enter your phone number and press Send code

  3. Enter the code that your phone receives
  4. Click Verify
  5. SMS Authentication is now configured. You can either enroll an additional factor, or click Finish if you are done enrolling devices at this time
Voice Call Authentication
  1. Click Voice Call Authentication
  2. Ensure that the country is set for your phone number, then enter your phone number
  3. Click Call
  4. Answer your phone, then enter the code that is provided
  5. Click Verify
  6. Voice Call Authentication is now configured. You can either enroll an additional factor, or click Finish if you are done enrolling devices at this time
Security Key (U2F)

Note: You must have purchased a YubiKey and have it available before using this option.

  1. Click Security Key (U2F)
    1. If using a Bluetooth Security Key, ensure that your computer's Bluetooth is enabled
  2. Click Register Security Key

  3. Insert the Yubikey into your computer
  4. Tap the gold disk if it has it, or press the Bluetooth button if it has a Bluetooth option
  5. Security Key is now configured. You can either enroll an additional factor, or click Finish if you are done enrolling devices at this time
Security Question and Security Image

After clicking Finish, you will be taken to a new page to enter your forgotten password question and security image

  1. Choose a forgotten password question from the drop-down box
  2. Enter your response
  3. Choose a security image to associate with your account
  4. Click Create My Account
  5. Your account has been created and is ready for use
  6. When you have finished your selections, click your name at the top right of the screen and choose Sign out.
